PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ethics Author Goree Receives Award
The Balance Sheet is proud to announce that Dr. Keith Goree
was the recipient of the 2005 William H. Meardy Faculty Member Award.
Nominated by the Provost's council at St. Petersburg College and
then approved by the Board of Trustees, he was on his way to becoming
one of five regional finalists.
All
Regional finalists were flown to Seattle in early September for
the ACCT Annual Meeting, and the Award was announced at a gala banquet.
Each Regional winner was recognized before Dr. Goree's name was
called as the national recipient. Keith said, "I don't remember
much after that except trying to get to the stage with the spotlights
in my eyes, hoping I wouldn't trip over something I couldn't see.
It was an amazing experience. My wife and kids will tell you that
my head swelled a few sizes, but overall it was really humbling.
To think . . . .1200 Community College across the nation, with untold
thousands of terrific faculty members - and they picked me. I'm
still amazed."
While at St. Petersburg College, Dr. Goree has worked on a variety
of professional experiences: written books and articles, worked
with the Justice Department on their national law enforcement curriculum,
worked with his school system on character education issues, conducted
workshops, and presented at conferences. Certainly the breadth of
those experiences led to his selection for the award. While a result
of his hard work, it is also a testament to the College and the
Applied Ethics Program at St. Petersburg College.
Congratulations from everyone on The Balance Sheet Staff, Keith!
